Neurofeedback is a non-invasive type of biofeedback that uses sensors to measure brainwave activity, providing real-time visual or auditory feedback to how the brain is reacting to experiences, with the goal being to help individuals learn to self-regulate their brain function and their emotional experiences and reactions. It is an incredibly effective tool for the treatment of various problems such as anxiety, depression, chronic pain/illness, ADHD, sleep issues (insomnia or hypersomnia), emotional and physical trauma, and the promotion of healthier experiencing of emotions and experiences (e.g., aid individuals along the autism spectrum) to live a more fulfilling life.

Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented, bottom-up technique to connect clients to their internal experiences and promote emotional and behavioral control.

  • Techniques

    • Tracking — Clients are guided to monitor physical sensations
(e.g., tension, warmth, tingling, etc.) associated with a stimulus
      or external stressor

    • Resourcing — Clients then identify and focus on internal or external experiences that bring feelings of safety, calm, control, strength, and acceptance

    • Titrating — Clients are guided slowly and gradually through their personal experience (e.g., trauma) while learning to read and regulate internal experiences

    • Grounding — Clients are then directed to physically connect with the immediate environment and engage in mindfulness skills to stay present in the moment (decrease dissociation) by feeling the physical experiences around them

    • Body Awareness/Mindfulness — Clients are taught and cultivate skills of nonjudgmental, moment-to-moment awareness of physical sensations both internally and externally
